SUCCESS STORIES

Picture
Emery Arnouse is the first member of the Little Shuswap Indian Band to receive his Interprovincial Red Seal Carpenter Certification. Emery started his carpentry apprenticeship with the Little Shuswap Indian Band Construction Division where he worked for three years. He completed the hours for his Fourth Year with a contractor in Revelstoke, BC. Emery attended the Carpentry “Red-Seal” Exam Preparation Course at Thompson Rivers University last fall and passed his Inter-Provincial Exam in Carpentry. The Little Shuswap Indian Band hosted a celebration dinner for Emery on January 27, 2011.  CITAC staff were invited, along with Emery’s friends, family and community members to attend and celebrate with Emery on this great achievement. CITAC was able to provide assistance to Emery with our Strategic Initiative Funds after he was referred to us by Chase Employment Services. Congratulations Emery from all of us at CITAC.

Gord McLeod received his automotive technical training during his career with the Canadian Military and recently was successful in writing the Inter Provincial Certification Exam for that trade. CITAC was able to assist Gordon by providing study material and review exams and assisted him with his application to the ITA. Ultimately, it was Gordon’s due diligence and perseverance that helped him successfully accomplish his goal. Our staff would like to acknowledge Gordon’s achievement and hope that he enjoys the rewards that come with being a Red Seal  Automotive Technician.

Wayne Klekta worked with Norm Humphrey of the Targeted Initiative Older Worker Program, upgrading his computer skills and safety certificates  and with Gerry Deane of the Trades Initiative Program who provided Wayne with guidance, study material and practice exams to help ready him for the Red Seal Endorsed  Carpentry Exam. Congratulations Wayne!

I feel getting my Grade 12 gave me confidence and a competitive edge.  When I finally went for an interview my enthusiasm and excitement definitely showed.  I may not have been the most qualified candidate but I was excited and he said that I had demonstrated I was resourceful by researching his company.
He said “skills can be learned if you have character and resourcefulness.” Now I have been asked to share my story with Literacy Canada at a luncheon on April 7th.  I feel very honored. Thanks CITAC,  Marilyn Lutzke Submitted by Marilyn Lutzke
